My name is Tony Pritchard and I am one of two Conservative Councillors for New Brighton. Together with my colleague Cllr Bill Duffey, we serve all residents throughout the year, regardless of political views.
I was born on the Wirral and have lived in New Brighton, with my wife Carol, for more than 21 years. We have four teenage sons, who all attended Primary schools here in New Brighton and Secondary schools in Wallasey.
I became involved in local politics in 1996 because I did not think that our Council was listening to or acting on behalf of New Brighton residents.
As a founding member of the New Brighton Action Group, I was part of the team that helped to set up the New Brighton Partnership and the New Brighton Walrus Community Newspaper.
I was elected to join the council in May 2000 and then re-elected in June 2004. I believe that it is a councillor’s responsibility to ensure that local people are informed and kept updated about local issues.
I think that ward councillors should be actively involved with their community, which is why I regularly work with residents, traders and community groups. Every year I help to organise New Brighton’s Christmas lights and take part and lead the New Brighton Carnival Parade.
My Council and community commitments include: Spokesperson on the Housing and Community Safety Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Community and Customer Engagement Overview and Scrutiny Committee . I am also a member of the Streetscene and Transport Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee. My sub Committees include: a member of SACRE- Standing Advisory Committee on Religious Education and SEN Advisory Committee Member. I am an appointed member of the Wallasey Day Centre Advisory Committee.
I am also an appointed Governor of New Brighton Primary School and a member of the Community Partnership & New Brighton Steering Group. I’m a Trustee of Save the Gorse and an active member of Vale Park Management Committee. I am also a new member to the Wellington Road, Regeneration and Planning Strategy -Conservation Area Advisory Committee. As I work from New Brighton, I’m a Member of the New Brighton Traders Association. I also regularly attend the New Brighton Area Forum and Wallasey Police Forum.
Bill and I are the public face of New Brighton’s Conservative Action Team. We are always keen to hear your views and ideas for improving the area.
