Welcome to my web page. My name is Patricia Mary Williams (generally known as Pat) and I am one of the three Liberal Democrat Councillors for the Oxton Ward. I was born in down town Birkenhead, lived in Rochdale, Hull and Hartford, Cheshire during a six year period, and then returned to Wirral. I am married to Henry and I have two daughters, Janet & Rachel and a son Paul.
Always happy to be an active member of the community in Oxton, such as serving on the PTA and then subsequently being a Governor at St Saviour's Primary School I have been a Councillor continuously for the Oxton ward since 1987. In June 2004 I was re-elected to serve for another 4-year term. I was Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group for three years prior to my having the honour of becoming the Mayor of Wirral 2002/3. During this year I met many of the fine young people and adults who were making a positive and valuable contribution to the well-being of the people of Wirral, and beyond.
I have served on the majority of the committees of Council. I was the Chair of Wirral Council's former Social Care and Health Select Committee for three years until May 2006 and the Liberal Democrats' Spokesperson on that Committee. I was also Chair of the Cheshire & Wirral Joint Scrutiny Committee 2005/6 I am the Liberal Democrats' Spokesperson on the Employment and Appointments Committee, a member of the Licensing & General Purposes Committee and also the Licensing Act 2003. I served as a member of The Children Act Reference Group which had the task of considering the policies needed to enable Wirral Borough Council to form the new Children & Young People's Department. I am a Governor of The Virtual School which seeks to ensure the educational well being of Wirral's Looked After Children. I am also a member of the District Board for Children & Young People for Oxton/ Prenton. In addition I served on the Adult Reference Group which met to prepare for the new Adults Social Services Department. I also regularly attended meetings of the Senior Citizens Forum to discuss the formation of an Older Person's Parliament since been approved by Council and which has become a thriving organisation..
I represent Wirral Council on The Oxton Conservation Society and I was proud to be given the first personal Oxton Society Thank You Award 2002.
As one who has always keenly interested in environmental issues I was very happy to be a Board Member of the former Groundwork Wirral until this recently merged with Groundwork Mersey Valley to become Groundwork Merseyside. In 2004 at the 10th Anniversary Celebration Dinner of Groundwork Wirral I received a certificate and a token of appreciation in recognition of my involvement since its inception.
During the past few months I have successfully instigated the formation of the Friends Of The Arno & Oxton Fields. We have a positive enthusiastic committee and held our first Public Meeting on the 22nd November 07. There was a good attendance, those present expressed their views and concerns openly and constuctively and at the conclusion of the meeting we went on to sign up members, which was very encouraging.
I am a member of the recently formed Police Neighbourhood Action Group who are working with the Police to look at imaginative ways to tackle problems in the Oxton area.
I am proud to have the opportunity to both serve and represent the people of Oxton and I would encourage anyone, of whatever political persuasion, in need of advice or assistance to contact me.
