Wirral Council, Heswall Ward
Councillor Les Rowlands

Heswall News

I have recently received a number of complaints with regards to Brimstage Road.  Traffic has increased on this road since the ban was put in place for Barnston Road with regards to the heavy articulated traffic.  This seems to have had the effect of increasing the flow of traffic down Brimstage Road it has been reported that Aldi are using white unmarked vehicles for their deliveries using Brimstage Road as a short cut to the motorway.  I rang the Highways Department to inquire whether Brimstage Road was included as a restricted area to these vehicles and was informed it was not.  When the ban was put in place for Barnston Road they did not include Brimstage Road.   I find this to be a grave  mistake by Wirral Borough Council highways department which has led to the increase in traffic that my constituency have to suffer.

I had a meeting recently with concerned residence of Brimstage Road who have raised issues which includes road safety, noise, speed, the poor state of the road and signage, there has been an increase in accidents with a recent accident being caused by a HGV and a car in collision on Brimstage Road.  A petition has been raised with these concerns and will be presented at the next full Council meeting.

I will be asking for a meeting with the Director of Highways to air all these issues.  Brimstage Road is a designated safer route to school area, this is causing concern to parents with the increase traffic.

I will keep you informed with the progress from these meetings and will endeavor to try and have these issues resolved.
