Work has now started for a £7.1million health and social care centre in the heart of Walkden have been approved by Salford City Council.

 

The new centre, located on the site of demolished flats on Cloverfield Walk off Bolton Road in Walkden, will house a GP practice, a full range of Salford City Council services including a ‘One Stop Shop’ for face-to-face contact with City Council services, community rooms, café and children’s play area.

 

In addition the centre will become a new home for both Walkden Library and Walkden Clinic. Both facilities will relocate when the new centre opens (planned for end of 2007).

 

Salford Primary Care NHS Trust will be providing a range of community health services in the centre including:-

 

·         Art Therapy

·         Audiology (adult and child)

·         Community Dentistry

·         Continence

·         Diabetes

·         Dietetics

·         Family Planning

·         Health Promotion

·         Health Visiting

·         Midwifery

·         Neuro rehab

·         Occupational Therapy

·         Orthoptics

·         Orthotics

·         some Outpatient appointments

·         Paediatrics

·         Physiotherapy

·         Podiatry

·         School Nursing

·         Speech and Language Therapy

·         Walk-in service

·         Weight Management.

Harrop Fold School taken out of special measures
Following a full OFSTED inspection this week led by Jane Jones, HMI Harrop Fold School has been judged to be providing a satisfactory standard of education, and therefore the special measures designation no longer applies, and the school does not require any further OFSTED cause for concern category. As a Governor at the school I am delighted with the news, and wish to congratulate the staff and children for all their hard work. Vincent Devine 8 December 2005
