Stadium is 'huge boost' for Salford

11/7/2006

Salford City Council have welcomed the government's decision to approve a new rugby stadium for Salford City Reds.

The club will announce further details of their stadium plans tomorrow (Friday) after receiving the decision from Secretary of State Ruth Kelly today.

Said Salford City Council's lead member for housing and planning Cllr Derek Antrobus: "This decision is a huge boost for the city, and we are delighted for the club and its supporters who have all waited for this day with so much anticipation. We note the inspector's comments about the benefits which will arise from developing a new stadium in the city, and the importance of sport as a driver for regeneration. Now the detailed work will begin on delivering a world class, 21st century sports facility for a 21st century city."
