I am the Borough Councillor for Baird Ward in Hastings. I was elected in June 2004, and have just been re-elected for a second term. You can contact me by telephoning 01424 781036, e-mail me at cllr.richard.vallery@hastings.gov.uk or write to me care of the Town Hall.
I was born in Old Hastings and on leaving school joined the Royal Navy, after which I entered the Licensed trade. I was an Hotelier and Publican for almost twenty years. My aim for Baird Ward is to reverse the trend of neglect that it has suffered for far too long. If you have any concerns please contact me, even if you believe they are trivial. I was elected to represent you all and I intend to do this to the best of my ability. While others talk, I will act.
Baird ward will be undergoing massive redevelopment during the next 5 or so years and this work will need to be closely monitored and open to scrutiny. I will be keeping a careful watch as these developments unfold.
On Hastings as a whole, our town is vibrant and exhilirating but it could be better. The Old Town has a unique charm all of it's own and this needs to be preserved. Our local heritage is our greatest asset and we must cherish this. As the senior Cinque Port of England we have a duty to set a high example and take the lead in tourism of the 1066 Country and celebrate and be proud of our history.
