Hello and welcome to my personal councillor website. I am Ross Hussey, the Ulster Unionist Party Councillor for the electoral area of Omagh Town - part of Omagh District Council.”
I will be using this site to keep you informed about my work, and to provide you with information about developments at Omagh District Council.
This website has been provided to help me in my work as a councillor – to help me communicate with all residents of Omagh Town, regardless of their political persuasion. It has been provided to help improve the quality of communication between councillors and the people that they represent. As this website has been established with funding from the e-Government Fund programme, it is not appropriate for me to use it for the purposes of political campaigning.
However, there is a ‘My Politics’ link in the toolbar on the left-hand side of this website, and I may use that to link to political sites that I think are of interest.
I hope that you will feel free to use the ‘Contact Me’ button in the toolbar on the left of this site to let me know your views on any important upcoming business that the council is involved in. I’d also be interested to hear how you’d like me to use this website – and other internet tools to improve the way that important local issues are communicated to you.
For 26 years I was a part time member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC Reserve and I have the honour of currently being the Chairman of the RUC GC Association - Part Time Officers Welfare Group and we are currently spearheading a campaign with the Government in relation to the payment of a well deserved gratuity to former part time officers.
Within Omagh District Council I have represented my party as Chairman of the P&R Committee in 2006/2007, Chairman of the Strule Arts Centre 2007/2008 and Chairman of the Education Committee. I am also Chairman of the Hospital Road Community Association Inter Agency Group which brings together the local agencies and the Association. We have already had several walk abouts in the area to highlight deficincies and to generally improve the facilities provided in the area. I have been representing the interests of the Hospital Road by supporting the development of plans and funding for the rebuilding of the Hospital Road Community Centre and hopefully the near £1 million project will be completed by the end of 2009.
I am currently Secretary of the Kevlin Community and Development Association which is the community group for the Kevlin Road area- an area which encompasses Festival Park, Cannondale, Sunningdale, Ashley Gardens, Johnston Park, Anderson Gardens, Townview Avenue, Townview Avenue North, Townview Avenue South and Cannonhill as well as the Kevlin Road. We are a very active Association and we have worked to ensure that traffic calming, cycle paths and other issues within our area are developed. We are currently in dispute with a developer who proposes to build high rise appartments on the site of the former Desmond's factory site - I as a Councillor will represent the views of the residents to the best of my ability to ensure we have a fair compromise in this situation.
I hope that you find this website of use to you and would recommend it to all the residents of the Omagh area
With best wishes
Ross M. Hussey
