Martin McColgan Biography

 

 

Marty McColgan is currently Chairperson of Omagh District Council. Marty is a lifelong Irish Republican and has been involved with Sinn Féin for a number of decades.

 

Martin has two children to Marion McMahon. Both very involved in youth and community work in their local area.  Barry, their son, is currently at University and is Ógra Shinn Fein National Organiser.

 

As Chairperson of Strathroy Community Association, Martin has extensive experience of dealing with the Housing Executive, Omagh District Council and other Government Departments.

 

Martin was instrumental in bringing the “Sure Start” project to the Stratroy/Lisanelly area of the town.  He remains central to the campaign to have the lands previously occupied by the British Army at Lisanelly released for development to benefit the entire local community.

Sinn Féin has nominated Omagh town based Councillor Martin McColgan for the position of Council Chair at the AGM of Omagh District Council last Wednesday night. 

Good news for Strathroy overshadowed by rural closures
Sinn Féin has welcomed the decision that Strathroy Post Office in Omagh has secured a reprieve but says that this good news has been overshadowed by the news that none of the rural branches throughout Tyrone that were identified for closure have received a similar reprieve.
