Profile

I have been a councillor since 1994 and have had the honour to serve as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of North Down. I have been Chair of many of the main committees and at the moment I am chair of the environmental and amenities committee. I served on the South Eastern Education and Library Board and as chairman of the Library Committee was instrumental in Bangor being given a new library. I have served on the Board of Governors of various schools and was delighted to be involved in the setting up of the new Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College. I serve on the Board of Governors of St. Comgall's Primary School.

As an advocate of renewable energies I proposed the acquisition of a wind turbine for Bangor. I am delighted that a wind turbine is being built in Balloo beside our new recycling centre.

As Chair of the Good Relations Committee I promote good community relations in the Borough and with the Mayor Councillor Steven Farry we hope to set up a multicultural forum.

I serve on various outside bodies including the District Policing Partnership, Shop Mobility, Home Accident Prevention, North Down Sports Advisory Council and the East Border Region Committee. I am vice president of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.
