Welcome to my website. I am Councillor Gary Stokes, SDLP elected member for Newry City on Newry & Mourne District Council.
I was first elected to Council in 2005 and am currently the SDLP leader on Newry and Mourne District Council. During my time on Council I have served on the District Policing Partnership and chaired the Council's Finance Committee. I firmly believe Council should play a lead role in civic life and deliver quality public services at a minmum cost to the rate payer.
Key council projects which I am involved in are the development of a new leisure centre and the developent of the Albert Basin site.
Outside of council I work as a manager in the area of all-island trade and business development. I am a keen runner and cyclist and enjoy playing the guitar. I am married with one son.
