About Me

About Me

I have lived in Middlesbrough for all of my life, and in Hemlington for over 20 years, after living in other areas of the town. After becoming involved in the local community of Hemlington as a volunteer with various community groups in the 1980s, I was elected as a councillor for Hemlington Ward in 1999.

Although, as a Middlesbrough Councillor, I now have duties relating to the town as a whole I still very much enjoy and value working with the community and local groups.  I am pleased to be able to play a part within Hemlington Community Partnership, Hemlington Linx Youth Work Project, the local Tenants Panel, Community Safety Group, Hemlington and Newham Sure Start and as a governor of two local primary schools.
I regularly attend Hemlington Community Council and local estate based forums, where I report to residents and follow up their concerns.

Most of the contact I have with the people of Hemlington is through meeting people on the streets, in the local shops, other local facilities, coffee mornings, community meetings or even waiting for the bus.  Others choose to telephone, drop in at my surgery (held fortnightly on Tuesdays at Hemlington Library) or increasingly by email.  Some also know me through seeing me out and about with my border collie dog around the lake and surrounding areas.  This website offers another means of contact and you can contact me by email using this site.

I was educated in Middlesbrough until the age of 18 and later as a mature postgraduate student at the University of Teesside.  I have worked in local government as an officer and more recently for a community work organisation as a tutor, but the duties as a councillor now takes up most of my time.
