Bus/road/transport meeting.
The news on these issues is not very good but we live in HOPE!
I have discussed the problems of bus withdrawals with our Council Transport Executive and they are still trying to get Arriva to change their minds. The Mayor is now also involved, so matters should improve! In the meantime because the busstops on Oxford and The Crescent ( shopping arcade traffic lights' end)are not being used, temporarily they will be used for badly needed extra PARKING to alleviate the chronic situation outside business/ shop premises .Although the busstops themselves will remain in the interrim, I have asked for NO BUSES STOPPING HERE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE signs to be erected for the benefit of all who have not been informed about the current situation. The new busstop sign has now been erected outside of The Masonic Hall and buses are stopping there!.
Update: the 508 currently running on SUNDAYS only, down Oxford Rd. is being subsidised by STOCKTON COUNCIL.I have asked that the Joint Transport Panel look at this, as a Middlesbrough initiative urgently, for weekdays, if only for a little runabout Leven Valley style bus! The Mayor himself has also been involved now and we are quietly hopeful that this time we could see a POSITIVE RESULT.
Road - wise, I have raised parking problems elsewhere in the ward and asked for residents parking if possible ( apparently a Transport Scrutiny panel are looking at this right now and are due to report shortly.)
Having also flagged up road repairs in areas like Ayresome Park Rd.,Tavistock, Kings, Belle Vue, The rollercoaster that is a drive down Latham and the middle to top of Harrow.Once again though the answer is not going to please you. There is no money to effect major repairs , so it is going to be patch and more patch for the near future. This does not in anyway, however, deter me from keeping up the pressure and bids for Capital expenditure in our area.
The one - way system v. traffic calming on Belle Vue and Kings is currently due to be settled.A twenty mile an hour speed limit is expected for Patey Ct. and Dresser Lane areasand again I have asked for the dotted line/ halt sign at the junction of Patey with Kings and Askwith to be installed urgently for the avoidance of Mexican standoffs and accidents.
Finally, on flagstone repairs, those already earmarked with white crosses will be dealt with shortly. I am sorry that I could not bring you all more joy with this update.I will not give up the fight though. If we are not in it, we cannot hope to ever "win" even the smallest of concessions.
