Litter and conservation

Litter and conservation are constant problems for us here in Linthorpe. Many of you  will have recently received wheelie bins, only to have them taken away again. This was a very unfortunate occurrence and one that is being investigated presently May I ask that all residents respond asap. to the current consultation doc. on if and where you want wheelie bins placing.I leave these matters entirely up to your good selves to decide but have asked be kept informed  both of your wishes and and the final solution Taken all in all, wheelie bins have to be a good deterrent to bag slashing and the very unfortunate consequences that can and are, alas occurring resultantly, to whit: excess and widely distributed litter , with in its wake unwelcome scavangers ( rodents, cats, dogs foxes and pigeons). The final choice, however, is yours.

May I also take this opportunity to remind all black bag users that The Government is now stepping up fines for black bags deposited anywhere outside of refuse collection dates and times. Please help the Council by putting out yours only on the relevant day and remember to take into account bank holidays when there may be either a one day or even two day temporary shift. Over Christmas/New Year this will probably be longer.

The extra litter and dog bins are very welcome. It is possible to deposit doggy bags in the larger litter bins if there is no specially designed dog bin close to your favourite walk. We have tried where possible to follow walkers' trails in the siting of the new bins.

Conservation - wise could I draw residents attention to the following issues: trees and open green spaces. Linthorpe Ward has long been a sought after area because of its leafy greenness. Alas , year by year, these are diminishing, due in part , in my view, to the wrongful  Government guidelines for building on greenfield sites and incomers disregard for nature and our  designated conservation status.Global warming results not just because of large gas guzzling vehicles or industrial outpourings, but also by the loss of natural resources, carbonmonoxide neutralisers/absorbers and flood preventions.Take out trees for no good reason and water tables are affected.Similarly so if lawns and hedges are uprooted to be replaced by concrete  walls and stone slabbed pavings. We must endeavour to PRESERVE and CONSERVE what little we have remaining that once endeared our area to those seeking a pleasant outlook and nature sanctuary. If we are all vigilant then we have more chance of passing on a clean and attractive environment to our descendants.Thank you.
