Sorry this site has not been updated for a while. I have both been busy with Ward work and Council meetings.
By now most of you will have seen the new roundbout on Acklam, against which we fought and lost.
Kirby College site is almost completely flattened now with only the main school building scheduled to remain. There have been a lot of enquiries about the future of the site and all I can do is point you in the direction of the Park Ward Councillors , as this is not in my Ward.
We are still awaiting the planning meeting for two applications: in Cambridge Rd. ( Bishop's former garden site for a proposed 65 bed sunken nursing home) and St. Barnabas/Addison Rd.s for a 13 flat edifice with underground carpark. No formal application has been received at MBC from Cambridge Rd. yet. and St. Barnabas' application was withdrawn but has still not been resubmitted to date.
Levick House has had the green light for demolition from The Council. We are awaiting the decisions of the Trust and The Charities Commission before this goes ahead.
A new "off licence" has been granted in Ayresome St. ( no. 108 for a proposed minimarket with alcohol sales from 7am to 10pm. due to commence operating on 01/12/09) this despite strong objections by myself alone - all other objections having been withdrawn from colleagues and no opposition offered by The Police Licensing Section, although the usual conditions have been agreed by them.
In the same area may I humbly request that parents and visitors to Sacred Heart School please be considerate to residents nearby and other road users. Parking there is far from satisfactory. Other similar trouble spots are Thornfield Grove/ Green Lane, Thornfield Rd/ Burlam and Reeth Rd./ Green Lane junctions.
Other parking issues are as follows: the orders for double yellows at the ends of Rockliffe and Harrow Rd.s have now gone to legal for drafting. Also there is to be a small stretch outside of Carter Bequest and the top of Northgate, with extra parking spaces allocated for the area yonside of the Linthorpe Hotel and at the bottom of Roman Rd./Oxford junction. The double yellows being again for safety reasons and the added parking to make up for any lost spaces.
Roadwise I have asked for the 4th time now for proper repairs to Tavistock Rd. and Chipchase and the delve in Cambridge to be dealt with along with the big hole in The Avenue before someone disappears down it. Fingers crossed we get action this time!!!
May I also remind car drivers that parking fully on pavements causes obstructions for pedestrians and worse, when cars are driven across pavements at all but definitely when they are driven at speed , there is danger to life and limb. Please refrain from these actions. Every child and adult counts!! Also the highway code is quite specific about parking near junctions; 10 metres away from the junction is what the rules say. Any closer and again there is a real danger to all road users. It is to be hoped that everyone will heed this advice. Otherwise ticketing of serial offenders will have to be introduced. I thank you in anticipation of your compliance.
