Focus on Transport Problems
A petition was presented to Mayor Ray Mallon highlighting the problems faced by people with learning disabilities who use public transport.
The petition of around 200 names was presented by the charity, Middlesbrough 1st which aims to campaign for the rights of people who have learning disabilities, and their carers.
Dave Lowe for Middlesbrough 1st said: "The petition highlighhts that people with learning difsabilities can face problems such as bullying and harassment from other passengers, and unhelpful staff who do not take their needs into account. This can make public transport a really daunting prospect. We believe that this petition will carry some weight. We're glad that the Mayor can use this petition in his discussions with local transport operators to show them that this is a live issue for many people in the town."

Middlesbrough Intermediate Care Centre, a Flagship resource.
A Middlesbrough Care Centre has re-opened after a £1.2m revamp.
Middlesbrough Intermediate Care Centre now houses a therapy room, new bedrooms, modern self-contained flats and staff areas following an eleven month refurbishment and extension.
The centre in Homerton Road, Pallister Park, has mobile rehabilitation, rapid response, residential rehabilitation, an enablement team and stroke family support.
I was privileged to open the Centre which is a partnership between Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust and Middlesbrough Council. The Centre offers the opportunity for rehabilitation for active recovery free of charge.
