Hello again, hope you find this site useful.
I am currently the Deputy Mayor, whose main duties are to; act as a link between the Mayor and the Council's Executive; stand in for the Mayor when necessary; help Executive members to implement their policies; and take an overview of the full range of Council services, fostering links with other bodies.
I have been a councillor since 1983 (I can't believe I have spent so long on the council - all those evening meetings with angry residents, all those big brown envelopes delivered in the evening to be read for the following morning - on the other hand all the satisfaction from helping people with their queries and problems) during which time I have been involved in the Leisure, Building and Streetscene sections of the Council. Of course, I have taken an interest in other aspects of the Councils actitvities notably Education and Economic Development.
I have represented Middlesbrough Council at a regional level (Chairman of the Local Authority Forum of Northern Arts - now Arts Council North East ) and at present represent the town at Assoc. N E Councils. I believe the town is going through a period of progress -- Middlehaven, mima, University, etc -- and feel privileged to be a part of a body that is making a contribution.
