Cycling

Cycling   Provision for cycling is a County Council responsibility but I continue to press for improvement in the interests of safety and viability of cycling.  Many journeys could be made using a cycle but the roads and the behaviour of drivers can be intimidating.  Locally I am seeking to get the cycle route along Seaford promenade completed, and also as a matter of priority, the short route from Seaford to Exceat.   Part of the Seaford seafront route now also links with the route into the outskirts of Newhaven which is attracting large numbers of walkers as well as cyclists.   The route to Exceat is very dangerous for cyclists but gives access to the County Park and the lanes around the Cuckmere river – so a cycle route here is also important for local cyclists and tourists.

I urge those who wish to cycle for fun and enjoyment to join the Cyclists Touring Club who have local rides and for more informal rides to get a copy of the latest County Council publication “Cycling in East Sussex”.   This is a programme of free guided cycle rides mainly for beginners and improvers.  The leaflet is available from cycle shops and libraries, or me.
