THIS could be an exciting glimpse of the future for Burnley's high school students.
The futuristic designs show how the planned replacements for the Borough's schools may look if they get the go-ahead.
Briefly the plans are to replace the eight secondary schools in Burnley by building five new 11-16 schools with special schools co-located on 0-16 campus and to build a new 16-19 centre to replace existing school sixth forms, compromising one Roman Catholic school and one non denominational school. If you would like to know more you can select the consultation document to see what is being proposed.
Work could start on the project as early as 2006. The plans have been unveiled by the Department for Education and Skills, and a spokesman has said "We believe that 21st Century schools must be designed to raise standards of pupil attainment and positively influence behaviour.
They should also provide environments that inspire teaching and learning and contribute to raising the morale of school staff.
The designs will help education authorities and schools to develop their educational vision and will drive constant high standards across the country. They are innovative and inspirational".
As your local County Councillor I welcome this chance for future generations of Burnley's children to learn in the most up to date facilities made possible by £150 million of investment in the future of our children's education, designed to equip them for the challenges and opportunities of life in the 21st Century.
