Hello and welcome to my website. I am Labour County Councillor for Padiham and Burnley West. The area which I represent includes Padiham, Hapton, Habergham Eaves, Dunnockshaw and Clowbridge.
I have been a member of Lancashire County Council since 2001. I am a former member of Burnley Borough Council and represented Trinity Ward for 11 years and am actively involved in the local communities which make up Padiham and Burnley West. Since my election, I have been involved in dozens of local campaigns which have included supporting the successful campaign to oppose the removal of a fire engine from Padiham fire station. When the Park Road household recycling centre was under threat, I lobbied hard to keep it open and, as a result, it is now no longer under threat.
I have also worked with residents throughout the area who want improved road safety measures. Recently, I have successfully pressed for the speed limit on the "top road" through Hapton to be reduced to 30mph. This will be implemented soon for a six-month trial period which will hopefully see few accidents. I am continuing to campaign for the necessary funding which will turn Padiham's linear park project into reality. I also backed Dunnockshaw Parish Council's successful fight against United Utilities plan for a massive wind farm on the moors above Burnley.
I regularly attend the town and parish councils in the area and work closely with Padiham Town Council, Hapton Parish Council, Dunnockshaw Parish Council and Habergham Eaves Parish Council. In addition, I am a member of Burnley's Lancashire Local which is the new organisation which takes decisions about local services provided by the County Council.
I am a member of the Cabinet at Lancashire County Council and am responsible for Community Planning and Partnerships. As the Cabinet Member for Community Planning and Partnerships my brief is very wide, ranging from Community Engagement, County Analyst Service, Emergency Planning, Registrars (Births, Deaths and Marriages), Town and Parish Councils, Trading Standards and Welfare Rights to having an overview of Neighbourhood Management Boards and Local Strategic Partnerships
I have been a member of the cabinet for the last five years and have held two previous positions before taking up my current appointment. I was cabinet member for Cultural Services from 2002 to 2005 and cabinet member for Planninng and the Environment from 2005 to 2006. I then became cabinet member for Children and Young People until May 2008 when I took up my current position.
