I will be touring the Libraries of Pendle on Monday 22nd January with colleagues of the Lancashire Local Committee (Pendle). The aim of this whistle stop tour is to examine and evaluate how we can increase footfall in each branch by introducing new services and information facilities. Support for retaining the current levels of Firefighters and Appliances across Pendle continues to grow with many petitions emerging from across the borough, as moorland fires being attended to by crews from Colne Nelson Burnley Accrington Blackburn & Craven, means that Colne is left without cover.
The next scheduled meeting of the Lancashire Local – Pendle will be held at the New Road Community Centre, Earby, on Wednesday the 2nd August 2006 at 6.30 pm.
There have been no decisions yet taken on this matter, only options suggested which will be put out to everyone for consideration and consultation. I will do whatever I can to support the Fire and Rescue Services within Pendle when the consultation document is available. Indeed I am meeting with Colne Fire Crews on Monday evening of next week.
My Motion which urges Lancashire Council Council to put pressure on the Government Department for Works and Pensions to reverse its decision to scrap the Post Office Card Account received cross party support at Full Council yesterday at County Hall in a unanimous vote. I am now delighted to say that LCC will now indeed be writing to the Minister responsible next week adding our name to the 381 MP's who have signed a petition against this insensitive service cut. If successful this will safeguard the future of many Sub Post Offices around the country who depend on the revenue they receive for providing this vital facility to local communities. I wish to thank everyone for there support
At the Full LCC Council Meeting on Thursday 20th July I will table a motion for consideration and debate urging Lancashire County Council to press the Government to think again about its plan to terminate the Post Office Card Account (POCA) in 2010. By removing this source of income for Sub Postmasters particularly in rural areas, not to mention the hardship on the public who will no longer be able to collect vaious allowances and benifits, many more Post Office branches will face closure. This follows the disappearance of a great number of Post Offices only a few short years ago.
Make sure you make a date to visit Trawden Village Garden Festival on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July. This event continues to thrive with many wonderful garden displays and other attractions.
Also coming up on Sunday August 13th is the famous Trawden Agricultural Show. A must day out for all the family.

I am delighted to have been invited by CCllr Bob Wilkinson (Chairman of Lancashire County Council), to the Official Opening Ceremony of this excellent newly exrended and refurbished facility for the elderly at 2pm on Wednesday 17th May 2006.
I have written to CCllr Tony Martin Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development at LCC to strongly protest at the plan to cut the above school service for pupils at Park High School and Nelson and Colne College. I consider that the risks involved to pupils having to cross Keighley Road or Cottontree Lane if the school bus was not available makes the removal of this service totally unacceptable. I await CCllr Martin's response.

Betty Taylor who is the long standing Parish Clerk for Foulridge is also acting as temporary clerk for Laneshawbridge Parish Council until such a time as a permanent replacement can be found and a full compliment of Parish Councillors are installed.
Pendle Borough Council and myself are looking into the options available with regards to the prevention of dog fouling on the childrens play area on Emmott Lane Laneshawbridge. Thoughtless dog owners are very much under fire from local residents who are very concerned for the safety of young children who use the area for play. Councillor Chris Howarth said recently that the area was "a disgrace and unfit for children to play on without potential being at risk from a serious health hazard". Colne Area Committee have the issue as an agenda item for discussion and I myself will be looking for other solutions ie Funding for fencing, should a solution not be found.
Trawden and Foulridge should soon benifit from the introduction of the SPID system in an attempt to tackle speeding motorists. Reactive speed indicator signs should soon be in action around the two villages in a collaboration between Lancashire County County, the Parish Councils and the Police. It was agreed at the April meetings that the system which incorporates smiley face response to good driving, would be purchased in a joint venture between Foulridge and Trawden.
The retaining wall on Gisburn Road Blacko is to be made safe until the necessary repairs can be made this summer. Stones have been regularly falling into the road causing a serious hazard on what is already widely accepted as a dangerous stretch of road. LCC bridgemaster office agreed to the make safe measures after I reported a worsening of the situation following an appeal by Blacko Parish Council who described the situation as "an accident waiting to happen".
