I have been elected as a County Councillor for the Electoral Division of Skelmersdale West to serve the interests of all residents, regardless of political persuasion.
I come from a political family and first joined the Labour Party at 15. In the early years I was content to remain a backroom worker at elections. But fired by a desire to get a modern fire alarm installed at my children's school and a conviction that I could be a better councillor than the then Conservative Chair of the Education Committee I became the County Councillor for Skelmersdale West in 1981. At the 1987 General election I stood as the Labour candidate in Crosby - and lost. In 2001 I became a member of the County Council's new Cabinet and since May 2003 I have been responsible for the Adult Services and Health issues. In 2005 I was returned for the seventh time as the member for Skelmersdale West with the largest Labour vote and majority in Lancashire.
I am a member of the Labour Party and take an active interest in a number of national and local campaigns. It would not be appropriate for me to use this website to promote these campaigns though you can visit related external websites by selecting some of the links to be found on this site.
