I first entered politics in 1979 when I was elected to Lancaster City Council. I served as Vice Chairman of the Housing Committee 81/83. In 1985 I was elected to Lancashire County Council serving on all the major committees over the twenty years I have served on the authority.
I was nominated to the Lancashire Police Authority in 2001 and have served on the Authority ever since. For three years I was the spokesperson for race and diversity which involved the implementation of the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000.
I am a member of Lancaster University Sports Centre which I try and use as often as possible and play tennis on a regular basis.
