Kennet District Council, All Cannings Ward
Councillor Tony Molland

My Personal Background

Born and educated in London, I have lived in Wiltshire with my family since 1964 when the RAF posted us to Lyneham from Singapore.  Altogether , I spent 20 years flying in the RAF and saw service in Canada, Cyprus, Singapore and many other countries.

Whilst still in the RAF, I became active in the community with the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust and rose to elected Chairman of the then Devizes & Pewsey Branch.  Subsequently, after being elected to the Governing Council,  I played an active role in promoting the first three-phase restoration plans for the waterway, and was appointed Editor of the quarterly journal "The Butty".

After leaving the military, I worked for a couple of years writing for a P.R. company in London before returning to flying and spending 10 years in the Gulf region as a contract training officer for the Sultanate of Oman's Defence Ministry.

Finally returning to the U.K. permanently, I retrained in Accountancy but am now semi- retired, although continue to work on a part-time basis for several local companies.  I was first returned as a District Councillor in 1991 and am proud to be still serving my community as a District Councillor.   I was honoured also to be re-elected to County Council in 2005, and since then have been appointed to serve on the Wiltshire & Swindon Fire Authority.

I was elected to the Board of Governors of Pewsey Vale School in 2004.

Windsurfing and skiing were once my sporting passions, but circumstances (age?) force me to follow more sedentary pursuits such as enjoying theatre, reading history and the continuing study of economics.
