I am a Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor, representing the Old Town and Clive Vale area. I was first elected onto Hastings Borough Council in 1983 and have served as both a Borough and County Councillor during 24 years of local government involvement. I was elected as Mayor of Hastings 3 times and have also been the Chairman of East Sussex County Council. I am currently the Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Hastings Council.
My connections with the Old Town are many and varied. I am Vice Chairman of the world famous Winkle Club and a committee member of both the Lifeboat Fundraising Society and the Old Town Carnival. I am a member of the East Hastings Sea Angling Association and for many years have provided the disco at the Hastings & St Leonards Angling Association (to say nothing of the occasional Elvis appearance for charity!) I am also Vice President of the Royal British Legion (Hastings & St Leonards).
As far as I am concerned, the Old Town embodies the birthplace of all that we think of as Hastings. This is where it all began and I am never happier than when I am in the Old Town with those who almost seem to have the salt of the sea running through their veins. I am, however, very conscious that the electoral division also covers Clive Vale - a somewhat incongruous combination recommended by a previous council administration - and I do my best to represent everybody within my Old Town/Clive Vale Ward.
