Welcome to my website

Hello, and welcome to my website.

You can contact me by telephone or fax on 01424 438252. Alternatively, you can easily send me an email through the 'Contact Me' link to the left hand side of the screen or via cllr.godfrey.daniel@hastings.gov.uk. You can also write to me at 101 Lower Park Road, Hastings TN34 2LE or at The Town Hall, Hastings TN34 1QR.

Braybrooke is centred around the lower part of Alexandra Park in Hastings. I have lived in the ward for some 20 years and was first elected as a Labour Borough Councillor in 1994, and then as County Councillor for Braybrooke & Castle Division in 1997.  I  was honoured to serve as the Mayor of Hastings (1998-2000). I was last re-elected in May 2006 to the Borough Council, and in June 2009 to the County Council. I have been a Justice of the Peace (JP) since 1989.

I was born in Swansea and I obtained a BSc(Hons) and Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Sussex University. I have two sons, Owen and Zeph, of whom I am very proud. I have been a teacher, youth worker, foster parent, residential social worker, education welfare officer and was, until my early retirement, the Head of Pupil and Student Services for the London Borough of Lambeth.

I am presently the President of the Hastings Welsh Society and a member of the League of Friends of the Conquest Hospital. I support many other charitable groups and musical societies in the Hastings area including Better Braybrooke, Castle Ward Forum, Hastings Philharmonic, Opera South East, The Stables Theatre and Battle Light Opera. I am a member of the Sound Waves Community Choir.

On the Hastings Borough Council, I am presently the Labour Party's Spokesperson for Regeneration & Planning, and I am a member of the Planning Committee and also the Standards Board. I am also the Chair of the Working Arrangements Group. At East Sussex County Council I am the Chair of Planning Committee, the Chair of the School Transport Panel and a member of the Transport & Environment Scrutiny Committee. I have recently been appointed to the Sussex Police Authority and I am a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Panel and the Professional Standards Committee. I am also an Associate Hospital Manager for the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me ormy fellow Councillor, Dominic Sabetian.

Finally, an amusing aside: Here's a song about someone else called Godfrey Daniel:

If you're curious and want to know about that Godfrey Daniel, why not ring me and find out?

My Latest News

Snow business!
I find it astonishing that the Conservative administration at East Sussex County Council are considering cutting the winter maintenance programme for roads by reducing pre-salting by £200 000 in each of the next two years. Godfrey says that “in view of the chaos caused to motorists and pedestrians by the recent snow and ice, it is surely unacceptable for those in power at the County Council to even think about cutting the budget which deals with such adverse weather conditions. The people of Hastings and East Sussex certainly deserve better and we in the Labour party will seek to oppose any such cuts which put at risk public safety as well as damaging businesses.”

Mount Pleasant Road Traffic Calming Success!
Braybrooke Ward Labour Councillors, Godfrey Daniel and Dominic Sabetian, are delighted that their efforts to get road calming measures for their part of Mount Pleasant Road have been successful.
