Hello, I am Roger Allen, one of your two Conservative Hardway councillors. I have always had connections with Hardway and Elson, in fact I was born in Anthony Grove Elson in December of 1943.
On leaving school I attended the Army Apprentices College at Arborfield for three years before joining the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as an armoured vehicles (tanks and armoured cars) mechanic.
I served in Ireland, Aden, Sharja, and Germany before I was eventually posted to Barnard Castle in Co Durham. Injury in service saw me enjoying the excellent care that has been the mark of Haslar Hospital for some 250 years, Here I spent some eight months before being medically discharged from the army in April of 1970.
Civilian life saw me married to my wife Jill and then came along two children. I worked for myself as a partner in a motor vehicle repair workshop for a number of years before deciding that I wanted a change of career. I then studied to qualify as a Psychotherapist and ran my own practise in Gosport for 10 years. I wrote four books on the subject and these have all been published.
I became a candidate for election in 2000 and was elected as a Conservative Councillor for Hardway Ward.
I was honoured to be elected as Mayor of Gosport for the municipal year 2010-11.
Making decisions on behalf of those who elected me to office is something that I take very seriously and accept that people expect of me that I make judgements based on facts, taking into account what is the best way forward for Gosport, Hardway Ward and the people I represent.
It is a fact that not all decisions are popular especially where finance is involved, but it is my belief that most people accept that nothing is free and someone has to pay. Common sense, integrity and a good grasp of reality are essential.
Always available to help wherever I can, just a phone call or an email away. If you have a problem, a complaint or suggestion that I can help with, please get in touch, I am happy to call on you at home at a time that is convenient to you if you wish.
I take a keen and active interest in the provision of medical services here on the Gosport Peninsula and attend many meetings with the Primary Care Trust and The Portsmouth Hospitals Trust on behalf of Gosport Council.
I deliver a monthly newsletter via email to residents of Hardway and Elson wards. If you would like to be included on the distribution list, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org requesting newsletters. Your email address will not be passed to any other party or organisation and all newsletters are sent "blind copy".
