Keith Gill was a councillor for Privett ward in Gosport representing the Lib Dems since May 6, 1999. He served as mayor of Gosport between 2007 and 2008.
Now Gosport Borough Council is preparing to honour his contribution to the town by making him an honorary alderman in a ceremony at the end of September.
Cllr Mark Hook, leader of Gosport Borough Council, paid tribute to Mr Gill and said he was always keen to do the right thing. I've always found him to be very honest and fair and he has always supported Gosport. When he was mayor he and his wife were perfect ambassadors.
I'm delighted the council will give him the honour of becoming an alderman. He deserves it for the work he has done on the council and in his work for education.
He was the conscience of the Liberal Democrats in Gosport.
