Colin was elected to Down District Council in May 2005 in the Downpatrick Electoral area. Colin is 32 and a Full Time Youth Worker in the town of Downpatrick.
After joining the SDLP in 2002 Colin worked closely with Margaret Ritchie during her 2003 campaign when she was first elected to the NI Assembly and was her Electoral Agent during her successful 2007 campaign. Margaret is now the Social Development Minister for Northern Ireland. Colin also works closely with the M.P. for South Down - Mr Eddie McGrady.
In 2007 Colin was elected Vice Chairman of the SDLP and works closely with the Party's Central Execuitve to revitalise and organise the Party. Colin chairs the Party's Policy Committee.
In Council Colin serves as the present Chairman of Down District and undertakes a range of civic duties representing the people of Down Distrrict. Colin also serves council by sitting on:
- Down District Policing Partnership
- Recreation and Environmental Services Committee
- Downpatrick Public Realm Steering Committee
- Down Leisure Centre Working Party
- Downpatrick Linkage Committees - Bezons/Listowel/Szekszard
- Northern Ireland Local Government Association member
- NILGA Rep on European Peace III Committee
Colin also sits on other various committees and organsiations and is:
- A member of the Board of Govenors of St Mary's High School, Downpatrick
- Director and Treasurer of Down Community Arts
- Member of the Executive of Down Community Health Committee
- Director of Down Business Park
When not working or representing the people of Down District, Colin likes to listen to music, surf the net and catch up with friends and family - although he will readily admit that there is increasingly less time to carry out these pastimes.
