The website of Councillor Mary Bradley & MLA

This website will be used to keep you informed of the work I do and problems that are being aired to me via this site or in the course of my work.  I was elected to Derry City Council in 1985 and have represented the Shantallow area since then.  I am extremely proud to have topped the poll at all but one (my first in 1985) of my elections to Local Government.  I have lived in Carnhill with my husband and daughter since 1971.  I was proud to represent this City as deputy mayor and mayor from 1990-1992.  I hold the party spokespersonship for the OFMDFM (the office of first and deputy first minister) in my capacity as an MLA.

In the area of Shantallow the main issues are housing, welfare rights and planning, together with the very worrying issue of anti-social behaviour.

I will be adding any local news and notices to this website for your information and you can also send items or photos of any local interest or areas that you consider as needing attention to my email address and I will address them and/or include them, (with your permission) in this website.

If you feel there are issues that you would like me to deal with please let me know via this website or on any of my contact numbers listed.

With Best Wishes

BRADLEY WELCOMES ATTENTION DEFICIENCY DISORDER DVD
SDLP Children’s Spokesperson Mary Bradley MLA has welcomed the launch of a DVD on ADHD by the Northern Ireland Attention Deficiency Disorder (NIADD) Youth Committee at Stormont today. She said: “By launching the DVD ‘It’s ok to have AD/HD’, young people affected by this disorder have made an important stand with the hope of developing people’s knowledge about the often hidden disease. “AD/HD is a real condition that affects around 5% of school aged children and I believe that education about the disorder is the key to treating and tackling the disease. “NIADD provides an invaluable service of practical support to children and young people and I have enjoyed meeting and chatting to its members at today’s event.”

BRADLEY: RIGHTS OF CHILDREN MUST BE PUT FIRST
SDLP Children’s Spokesperson Mary Bradley has urged the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) to endeavour to protect the rights of children. Speaking at the launch of Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People’s (NICCY’s) new review of children’s rights entitled ‘Children’s Rights: Rhetoric or Reality’ she said: “Children are one of the most vulnerable groups within our society and as politicians we must do everything in our power to promote and protect their interests. “I welcome this review of children’s rights today which underlines the need for all children regardless of disability or ethnicity to have equal access to healthcare, education, play and leisure. “The active involvement of children in producing this document is a lesson for OFMDFM proving that children must be given a voice when laws which affect them are being drafted. “The SDLP created a dedicated Children’s Fund in the previous Assembly, but unfortunately
