My News

Following the recent elections to the new unitary Northumberland Council, I am no longer county councillor for Morpeth North division, but I will still represent the area on Castle Morpeth Borough Council until it is abolished on March 31st 2009, and on Morpeth Town Council after that.
I am looking forward to working with the three newly elected Lib Dem Northumberland councillors who represent different parts of my Borough ward. David Moore is councillor for most of the area, covering everywhere north of the river plus High Stanners. David Woodard represents Middle Greens(as part of the Pegswood division) and Ian Lindley covers Alexandra Road,West Greens and Castle Square (as part of Stobhill division). We remain committed to doing our best for our constituents and will continue to communicate with you regularly via FOCUS.

I and fellow Lib Dem councillors are strongly opposing proposals from the Labour-run County Council for further huge increase in charges for Adult Social Services, to save money in next year’s budget.

Morpeth Lib Dem Councillors are continuing to work with the Council and the police to reduce the effects of anti-social behaviour on the lives of residents in and around the Town Centre.

17/1/2008 -  JANUARY ROADWORKS UPDATE
The road works needed for the Car Park in Dark Lane are now largely complete, with the new roundabout at Dacre Street working well and the improved junction at Stanley Terrace making it safer for the residents of Burnside to get in and out of their street.

Investigations to find out the cause of very poor drainage along the central path through Lancaster Park have so far failed to come to a clear conclusion.

17/1/2008 -  FLOOD RISK - SOME PROGRESS
In September we highlighted the continuing major risk of flooding in Morpeth Town Centre, High Stanners, Low Stanners and Middle Greens.

The Government has decided that elections for the new unitary council will be held in on the 1st May 2008.

In November I gave an update for residents on roadworks affecting the Dacre Street/Howard Road area. Work should finally be completed on 3 different projects by March 2008.

17/1/2008 -  20 mph ROAD SAFETY ZONE
In September we reported on my proposal to create a 20mph road safety zone on Howard Road, Dacre Street, Cottingwood Lane and the surrounding area.

Also in September we drew attention to the major problems experienced by residents near Morpeth town centre, caused by "boy racers" using the car parks and local streets as race tracks.

In September, Morpeth Lib Dem Councillors began a campaign aimed at persuading the Government to give priority for vital improvements to Morpeth's flood defences.
