Thanks for contacting my webpage

To those of you who don’t know me, I am one of the elected councillors for Morpeth North Central ward on Castle Morpeth Borough Council. This comprises all the area north of the river, plus High Stanners, Castle Square and Middle Greens. I am also the  Northumberland County Councillor for the Morpeth North division which covers the same area, apart from Castle Square and Middle Greens.

I am rather new to being a councillor, having been elected to the County 2 years ago and to the Borough only 8months ago. I still have a lot to learn about how to be most effective in getting things done, but I am working hard to make the system work for you, the residents and taxpayers.

I was born in Newcastle and have spent most of my life in the North East. I have lived in Morpeth for 30 years. Before my election I spent 35 years working as a Chemical Engineer for a large multinational company, finishing my career as a senior manager in Research and Development.  I am finding that my experience of getting things done in a large business organisation is very helpful in finding my way through the complex structures of councils and quangos.

I have been interested in politics all of my life, because it is elected people who have to make the difficult choices of how best to spend limited taxpayers’ money. I have always been a passionate believer in both high quality public services and protection of our individual freedom from undue interference from the state. That’s why I am a long-time member of the Liberal Democrats.

I am very committed to both informing and listening to the public about issues which affect Morpeth. We have delivering regular FOCUS newsletters for many years now and this will continue. Please contact me at any time via e-mail at leshcassie@aol.com or by phone on 01670 515174.

My Latest News

I'm still your representative on Castle Morpeth Council
Following the recent elections to the new unitary Northumberland Council, I am no longer county councillor for Morpeth North division, but I will still represent the area on Castle Morpeth Borough Council until it is abolished on March 31st 2009, and on Morpeth Town Council after that. I am looking forward to working with the three newly elected Lib Dem Northumberland councillors who represent different parts of my Borough ward. David Moore is councillor for most of the area, covering everywhere north of the river plus High Stanners. David Woodard represents Middle Greens(as part of the Pegswood division) and Ian Lindley covers Alexandra Road,West Greens and Castle Square (as part of Stobhill division). We remain committed to doing our best for our constituents and will continue to communicate with you regularly via FOCUS.

County Council increasing Home Care charges - again
I and fellow Lib Dem councillors are strongly opposing proposals from the Labour-run County Council for further huge increase in charges for Adult Social Services, to save money in next year’s budget.
