St. Aidan's is a warm, friendly church with a welcome to family members of all ages.

December 2007

St. Aidan's Church, Shields Road, is a warm, friendly little church which was built specially for the people livng in Stobhill. In the mid-1950s when it was planned there was a big fund-raising campaign, and many residents may remember buying a small paper 'brick' for 2 shillings (old money!) towards the building costs.

In April this year the church celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a special service in a marquee adjoining the church, with the Bishop of Newcastle taking part and a Christian Rock Band RE:BORN providing the music. There were children's activities and a barbeque the previous day and the celebrations ended a few days later with a sell-out concert by a group of singers from St. Petersburg, Russia.

St.Aidan's is small and modern with a friendly atmosphere. A warm welcome is guaranteed to all who come to any of the services or events held there. On Sunday 23 December at 4.00 p.m there is a service of Evening Prayer, and on Christmas Eve there is a Carol Service at 6.00 pm when children help to dress the Christmas Crib. This is always a very popular occasion and to guarantee a seat it is best to arrive early!

The last service in 2007 will be on the following Sunday 30 December at 10.00 a.m. when, as well as all who would like to come from Stobhill, we will welcome folk from our sister churches of St. Mary's and St.James's churches in Morpeth for a service of Holy Communion with the combined choirs leading the singing. Coffee and biscuits will be served afterwards. Once again, early arrival is advisable!

Details of services will be posted in advance on this website together with details of special events at St.Aidan's Church so WATCH THIS SPACE!
