Welcome to my website. I am the Democratic Unionist Party
elected member for the electoral area of Ballymena North - part of
Ballymena Borough Council. This area includes Academy, Ardeevin,
Ballyloughan, Dunclug, Fair Green, Galgorm and Park.
I will be using this site to keep you informed about my
work, and to provide you with information about developments at Ballymena
Borough Council.
In the foreword of the Mayor's diary I gave a pledge that
I would spare no effort in working with the public and private sectors to
ensure our Borough progresses locally, nationally and internationally. In
print fine and impressive words, perhaps, but demanding action and commitment
on my part!
Such action has resulted in a very busy year during which
I met all ages, classes, colours and creeds from a wide range of interests
representative of 26 different nationalities (covering 5 continents) - from the
Orkney Islands in the North to New Zealand in the South, Japan in the East to
the state of Oregon in the U.S.A. in the West.
The year of office, for me has flown and like a vapour has
vanished, but memories, too many to mention now, will abide, retentive from 369
mayoral engagements, all of which were attended on time and honoured.
Additional to that I have chaired 48 meetings and further in addition, attended
174 meetings giving rise to initiatives. All the year's activities were
accomplished well within the mayoral budget.
The highlight of year and jewel in the crown was the
official opening of The Braid Centre by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of
Cornwall. Another significant milestone in the history of our Borough
achieved. A day heralded by many resident outside of our Borough.
This was soon followed by the unveiling of a stone tablet
in the Memorial Park to the memory of 3 Victoria Cross winners: Private
Alexander Wright, Sergeant Bernard Diamond and Major George Stuart White.
It was a proud moment for us to reflect upon the heroic efforts of 3 soldiers
from within our borough.
Yes, Ballymena is a very busy place, but never too busy to
stop and pay gratitude to those who passed down our freedom and liberties.
With best wishes
Councillor Maurice T.
Mills (Mayor).
