Welcome to my website. I am a Democratic Unionist Party elected member for the electoral ward of Ballymena South - part of Ballymena Borough Council. This area includes Ballykeel, Harryville, Ballee, Kells, Fisherwick and Dunfane.
I was elected in 2005 and have been active in local government since. At present I chair the Cultural Services Committee in Council which among other things is responsible for oversight of the new Braid Arts Centre, museum and Town Hall complex. It is my hope that this exicting new development will be at the heart of Ballymena Borough's cultural and historic scene.
I also sit as a member of local community and voluntary groups, including Ballee Community Association. At present there is a considerable amount of work being carried out in the Ballymena South area between Harryville and Ballee and I am delighted to play a part in this regeneration.
My other interests include education and I am particularly concerned at the present difficulties surrounding academic selection. There is a link to the DUP website on the toolbar on the left-hand side of this website and our policies on this and other matters may be further researched there.
This website has been provided to help me communicate with all residents of Ballymena Borough Council, regardless of their political persuasion. As this website has been established with funding from the e-Government Fund programme, it is not appropriate for me to use it for the purposes of political campaigning.
I hope that you will feel free to use the ‘Contact Me’ button in the toolbar on the left of this site to let me know your views on any important upcoming business that the council is involved in. I’d also be interested to hear how you’d like me to use this website – and other internet tools to improve the way that important local issues are communicated to you.
With best wishes
Councillor Deirdre Nelson B.A.
