Nearly the end of July and I have nothing much to tell you about the new authority! Well actually I am still in the dark.I am going to attend the workshop on the electoral review tomorrow...29th July.  I think it is most important that we in the rural North are not forgotten about. From April 1st next year we are to be represented by 1 councillor where we have currently 5 . This is clearly not good enough to ensure that we get our fair share of services etc.and I intend to make this clear.
We have at last had some success in having the promised fencing in Alnside erected.
I have no news about the phone box at Callaly.
I hope you all have a good Summer break, and that the weather keeps fair.

5/12/2007 -  5th December 2007

This time in 3 weeks it will all be a distant memory....all the shopping, spending eating and drinking, such a lot of effort .
I do hope that you will all enjoy a fantastic Christmas season. I am taking a short break to be with all my 3 children and 6 grandchildren in Wiltshire. By the time you have added husbands and others there will be 16 of us so it will be a joyous if noisy time .
I contacted Richard Stow about the condition of the road just as you leave Whittingham towards Callaly. The ditches had become filled in by the recent works and mud was extending over the road and causing flooding. Richard said we would have to wait until he had a digger in the area, but within a week the job was done. I really would like to thank Richard and his team on behalf of us all as he responds so quickly to requests to get things repaired etc.
I have enjoyed my first 6 months as your councillor and it has been an eyeopener for me. I hope to continue to do my best for you all and take

I held my surgery again on Saturday and am pleased to report that it was well attended.
As only one person offered to help me run the surgery as a coffee morning, I thought I would run it as just a surgery. I had reckoned without Penelope Bailey, she had arrived before me and was busy putting out tables and chairs . Penelope told me that some people would be coming along as they would like to support the hospice. People were offered tea or coffee and biscuits and asked to make a donation if they wanted to. We raised £5, only a small sum but a start. Next time it will be a proper coffee morning complete with tombola etc.( I must remember to check the licensing status of the hall!!). Many thanks to Penelope for all her help.
I was able to relay back to people that all the issues raised at my last meeting had been taken up and the majority have been successfully dealt with.
The pathway by West End cottage has had some attention, but it is only a partial job as I have been told there

I will be holding my next surgery at the Memorial hall, Whittingham on Saturday 3rd November from 10.30am to 11.30 am.. Please come and join me for a coffee and the opportunity to discuss any difficulties you feel I may be able to help with.
I was hoping to have a coffee morning running in conjunction with the surgery but only had one volunteer to help me so am unable to go ahead with this, this time.

Late on Saturday morning my post arrived and in it the dreaded news that the legal challange by Chester and Shrewsbury has been unsuccessful. The reasons given make a mockery of democracy. It appears that the minister does not have to take account of the peoples wishes and feelings and can in fact do what ever she wants. It will take time for our officers to absorb this news and decide what to do on our behalf.
Why has there been no mention in the media, perhaps there is something to hide?!!

Well....Gordon Brown has decided that there will be no election yet, I wonder what the real reason is!
We still wait to hear the decision re the legal challenge to the imposition of a unitary authority....I am told it could be announced this week. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I wrote to NCC to complain about the state of the paths in Whittingham in the area by the Church, and the fact that they should have been resurfaced 2 years ago. I am told there is no money in the
