Hello

My background – trained originally as an electrical engineer with SSEB and CEGB (ah, happy days!). Became involved with computers and spent last fifteen years running a computer dealership in Berkshire before returning north in 2002. My wife, Margaret, was born and brought up in Alnwick and we have three (grown-up) daughters and two grandchildren. I have also served as a Parish Clerk and have been involved in financial consultancy for parish councils throughout England and Wales, so I have a keen interest in the District’s financial systems.

I serve on Longhoughton Parish Council and was chairman for two years, stepping down this May.  I am also Treasurer of SS Peter & Paul, Longhoughton, and of the Aln Valley Railway Society and Trust (to see how the railway is getting on, now the footpath issue has been settled, click here).

Clearly the next two years are going to be a time of change and upheaval for all members and staff of the Council. I hope that we can work to ensure as smooth a changeover to the new arrangements as possible and I would like to see our parish councils playing a full part in the new democratic structure, though with the prsent lack of information on how 'Belonging Communities' are to be set up, this is a concern.
