Today’s Journal carries an interesting story tucked away on page 16, regarding the de-selection of certain Conservative Councillors in Tynedale for the new Unitary Authority elections in May. I find it interesting that even the Conservatives have turned their back on one of their former leaders and longstanding councillors, I did not even think the Conservatives could risk loosing seats to former Conservative councillors standing as independents especially in such a crucial election that this one is. I can say for a 100% fact that regardless of whether or not these 3 candidates have decided to stand in the election in May…….they will! But what would be interesting to see is if these candidates win in May, what group they would join at county hall? Or how they would vote? Would they continue to support the group that has turned there back on them (conservative ‘independent’ group)? Or would they truly become independent if there is such a thing at county?
