I sit on Alnwick District Council as a member of the Liberal Democrats because my values are broadly in line with this party's policies. I say 'broadly' because most of us within the party are independent thinkers and follow our consciences where necessary.
My core values are:-

· Care for the less fortunate in our society
We need to work together to maximise the use of our limited resources, in order to make improvements to our daily lives. Despite the financial constraints there are many opportunities to move forward as a community, whether it be in the area of education, leisure facilities, transport, parking, recycling, care for the elderly or the many other facilities and services that we share together. With eighteen months experience as a District Councillor, I feel that I am now able to understand better the ways in which all of our services work to the common good of the community. As Chairman of the Policy Executive Committee and Leader of the Council I have the increased opportunity to influence the overall strategy and direction of the Council, I also act as a critical friend where needed .
