Alnwick District Council, Amble West Ward
Councillor Leslie Bilboe

A growing town

I welcome Tesco taking over the Co-op in Queen Street This should give shoppers more choice, And now with a real possibility of a new supermarket, and the development of some 50 houses on the Braid.

This together with the other proposed developments I visualise Amble doubling in size over the next 10 to 15 years and We need to ensure that the necessary services we need to meet this increase in population are in place i.e., Doctors Dentists, Schools etc.

The proposed housing developments have already reduced the available parking space in Amble and this will reduce this still further once the building work starts This is a problem which needs to be addressed urgently if we are to encourage people to come to Amble to shop and to support the  local retailers who currently provide us with such an excellent variety of goods and services.

If we don’t find solutions we run the risk of Amble becoming a one-stop shopping venue, and that stop will be the new supermarket.

One of the biggest concerns I have and get the most complaints about are the state of our roads and paths which are in a dreadful state as no major repairs have been done for something like 10 years.

One of the other problems I feel we face is that of anti-social behaviour. Examples of this being vandalism under-age drinking and the racing of cars around the towns and villages. I know most towns and villages in the land suffer from it, but I am working with the Community Support Officers from Northumbria Police in order to try and curb this problem.

It is great to see so many young people using the refurbished Welfare Park after such a large amount of money has been spent on it. Please help support and look after it-after all it is for YOU THE LOCAL RESIDENTS !!!
