In May 1999 I was elected as an Alnwick District Councillor representing Amble Town Council in the Amble Central Ward (covering from Lindisfarne Road down to the end of Bay View and many side shoots)
There are eight other councillors in Amble and we are here to represent all residents, regardless of political persuasion, I am however an Independant Councillor.
My two years in office as Chairman and Mayor of Amble Town Council are nearly at a close, I have enjoyed this part of my councillor work very much, it has included going to quite a few openings of various functions, meaning I have met a lot of old friends and lots of new friends.
My aim on joining the council was to be there to help residents of the town even if they are not in my ward, my anwser to those residents is to ask your own ward councillor and if you do not get any response in a week or two come back to me and I will see what I can do. I hope that in the last six years I have acheived most of the things I set out to do, of course many things are really beyond my getting help for.

I have really enjoyed the last three years as Chairman & Mayor I found myself up the Steeple of the East Cemetery Spire during restoration work, which came to fruition Friday 28th April 2006 we have a good array of data and work sheets for local schools and the T.I.C. Office in Amble, we hope this lovely area will now become a place of interest not only for the locals and schoolchildren but also for tourists.
Since becoming a councillor I have also become very involved in collecting for various charities. the first being the Breast Cancer Fund, which is a cause dear to my heart,with a collection of over £1300's, then the Tsunami appeal which was £1200's then last year the North Northumberland Air Ambulance Fund for whom I collected over £1,000's, then to add to this I was given a 5 hundred pound donation for this cause. I also do the local container collection for Amble and Warkworth. In the last year from 21st February 2006 to date I have collected from locally placed tins and donations almost £2.000 I find this work very rewarding and on behalf of The Air Ambulance I would like to thank everyone who has given to this very worthwhile cause.
In the last three years I have opened quite a few Fayre's, Fete's, Coffee Mornings, Summer Garden Parties, Lifeboat Days, Christmas Events and the local Brambles Centre for small children. I was invited to ride on Santa's Sleigh for the last three years and even switched on the Christmas Lights so it has all been worth while. I was asked to give a couple of talks about our local Harbour, and they must have been quite good because I have been asked back to do another one in the winter, another subject I think. Next May 2007 my diary is already marked to do a talk to the Local History Group so resigning as Chairman will not stop me from being very busy.
The Town Council are taking part in the Marine Conservation Beach Cleans again this year and our first for 2007 will be on 17th February starting at 10.00 a.m. at the car park in Ladbroke Street ,Gloves and Pickers will be provided please come and join us and join in what always turns out to be a communal spirited morning. Anyone coming into Amble down Percy Drive will not fail to miss our lovely planters at the mini roundabout, the beauty of the flowers never fail to lift up the darkest days of winter and I am so glad I badgered Alnwick District Council again and again to do these. The Town has many new seats so I hope the residents will be able to rest their weary legs when out and about if they need.
We are now only 4 months months away from the next elections and with God's help I shalI stand and fight again.
Next Saturday February 17th 2007 the Amble Town Council are back on the beach, "The Little Shore" doing the first of their quarterly beach cleans, this event is not very well attended but the few who come religiously have great fun and there is always a friendly atmosphere, if you want to join in meet us at the Car Park adjacent to the "Little Shore" at 10.00 a.m. We will be so pleased to see you and the family.

Coastline management proposals on view to public
Proposals to manage the north east coastline from erosion and sea flooding over the next 100 years will be on display to the public next week and local residents are being invited to go along, give their views and find out more.
