My News

5/1/2010 -  Snow business!
I find it astonishing that the Conservative administration at East Sussex County Council are considering cutting the winter maintenance programme for roads by reducing pre-salting by £200 000 in each of the next two years. Godfrey says that “in view of the chaos caused to motorists and pedestrians by the recent snow and ice, it is surely unacceptable for those in power at the County Council to even think about cutting the budget which deals with such adverse weather conditions. The people of Hastings and East Sussex certainly deserve better and we in the Labour party will seek to oppose any such cuts which put at risk public safety as well as damaging businesses.”

Braybrooke Ward Labour Councillors, Godfrey Daniel and Dominic Sabetian, are delighted that their efforts to get road calming measures for their part of Mount Pleasant Road have been successful.

23/9/2009 -  ASDA for Silverhill
Godfrey Daniel was pleased to be able to propose the ASDA planning application for acceptance - especially as it will provide up to 350 jobs in our town

23/9/2009 -  We need a new Library!
The County Council has agreed to finance a new main library in the town centre of Hastings.

I submitted this motion to the Hastings Borough Council:The Council welcomes the provisions in the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 which gives it the “Power to make dog control orders”. It resolves to make the first use of this power by formalising the situation with regard to the Lower Part of Alexandra Park (Between Dordrecht Way and Bethune Way), which currently has a voluntary scheme “Room for All”. This will enable effective enforcement to ensure that dogs are kept on leads and deter dog fouling during the scheme’s operational times. The Council will then undertake further consultation with a view to extending the dog control order to allow only dogs on leads, at all times, in this part of Alexandra Park . Since then the Borough Council has agreed to have dogs on leads in the lower part of Alexandra Park between the hours of 08.00 and 18.00 throughout the year.

13/2/2007 -  Support the Conquest
I was pleased to able to support the Conquest Hospital at the vigil outside the hospital on 9 December 2006 (see my pictures).

13/2/2007 -  Let's See Democracy Work!
My motion to be debated on 5 March 2007: “Hastings Borough Council believes that it is important that the residents of the Borough are able to engage with the democratic workings of the Council. Following the success of East Sussex County Council in webcasting its meetings, Hastings Borough Council acknowledges the limited capacity of the Town Hall and resolves to investigate the feasibility of webcasting its meetings with the aim of improving public access to the decision making process.”

On 25 October my motion will be considered by the Hastings Borough Council:

“Hastings Borough Council expresses its dismay concerning the recently announced Eurostar’s proposed timetable amendments. These would have a significant impact on the economic vitality of Hastings Borough and Rother District and would undermine the regional strategy to realise regeneration particularly in Hastings and Bexhill. Hastings Borough Council welcomes the comments of our MP, Michael Foster, on this issue and will work with him and others to try to change these ill thought out proposals.”

29/5/2005 -  Sculpture in the Lake!
Godfrey Daniel was pleased to help celebrate, with the use of a megaphone, Hasting's newest piece of public art which has been built in the Alexandra Park Boating Lake. The piece was created by Rick Kirby and is called "Continuum". (see pictures)

Following a successful campaign with a petition of over 1300 signatures, the Borough and County Councils have agreed to build 5 new crossings including one in St Helen's Road in the vicinity of Dordrecht Way, and one in Bethune Way.

People in Hastings are being asked to put forward the names of trusty traders to be included in a new county-wide directory aimed at reducing the chance of getting ripped off.

Trading Standards has launched the ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme as a way of helping consumers avoid rogue traders while supporting good, honest businesses.

1/4/2004 -  The End Of An Eyesore!
Thanks to pressure from your ward Councillors, the former Hollingsworth's garage site in Braybrooke Road has been cleared by the owner.

The regeneration of the park celebration was a lovely day on Saturday 24 April 2004.
