Welcome to my website

Hello, and welcome to my website.

You can contact me by telephone or fax on 01424 781082. Alternatively, you can easily send me an email through the 'Contact Me' link to the left hand side of the screen or via cllr.godfrey.daniel@hastings.gov.uk. You can also write to me at 101 Lower Park Road, Hastings TN34 2LE or at The Town Hall, Hastings TN34 1QR.

I have lived in Braybrooke Ward for some 20 years and was first elected as a Labour Borough Councillor in 1994, and then as County Councillor for Braybrooke & Castle Division in 1997.  I  was honoured to serve as the Mayor of Hastings (1998-2000). I was last re-elected in May 2006 to the Borough Council, and in May 2005 to the County Council.

I was born in Swansea and I obtained a BSc(Hons) and Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Sussex University. I have two sons, Owen and Zeph, of whom I am very proud. I have been a teacher, youth worker, foster parent, residential social worker, education welfare officer and was, until my early retirement, the Head of Pupil and Student Services for the London Borough of Lambeth.

I am presently the President of the Hastings Welsh Society, a member of SESAME (a support group for those suffering with sleep apnoea), and a member of the League of Friends of the Conquest Hospital. I support many other charitable groups and musical societies in the Hastings area including Better Braybrooke, Hastings Philharmonic, Opera South East, The Stables Theatre and Battle Light Opera. I am a member of the Shore Sounds Community Choir.

On the Hastings Borough Council, I am presently a member of the Cabinet, as the Labour Party's Spokesperson for Regeneration & Planning, and I am a member of the Planning Committee and also the Standards Board. I am also the Chair of the Working Arrangements Group. At East Sussex County Council I am the Chair of the Transport & Environment Scrutiny Committee, the Chair of the School Transport Panel and a member of the Planning Committee. I am a member of the East Sussex Music Service Management Committee and you are very likely see me at their very enjoyable concerts.

If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or my fellow Councillor, Dominic Sabetian.

Dogs on leads in lower Alexandra Park
I submitted this motion to the Hastings Borough Council:The Council welcomes the provisions in the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 which gives it the “Power to make dog control orders”. It resolves to make the first use of this power by formalising the situation with regard to the Lower Part of Alexandra Park (Between Dordrecht Way and Bethune Way), which currently has a voluntary scheme “Room for All”. This will enable effective enforcement to ensure that dogs are kept on leads and deter dog fouling during the scheme’s operational times. The Council will then undertake further consultation with a view to extending the dog control order to allow only dogs on leads, at all times, in this part of Alexandra Park .

Support the Conquest
I was pleased to able to support the Conquest Hospital at the vigil outside the hospital on 9 December 2006 (see my pictures).
