Like many towns and cities around the UK Hastings should be encouraging businesses and residents to cut down on and, eventually, eliminate use of plastic bags and this month (Feb 08) I proposed a motion to Council calling for this, which was overwhelmingly accepted.

Cllr Daniel and I have long campaigned for a new library and last year introduced a motion, which received overwhelming support, calling on the County Council to provide a building with modern library facilities in central Hastings and this has now been agreed.

Thanks to the massive local concern about the pier's future the 'Friends of Hastings Pier' was formed which could be the precursor to a Hastings Pier Trust, one possible avenue to safeguarding the pier's future. However, now that a full structural survey has been finally completed we now know the approximate cost over both short and medium term of making the pier safe and then keeping it in a safe condition.

Webcastings of Hastings Borough Council meetings, as is already done for County Council meetings, would allow people to view meetings in a place and at a time which is convenient to them
